About Me

I'm a Canadian/British freelance sound engineer based in London, England. I specialise in live sound mixing, studio recording and location recording/mixing.

My work as a live FOH sound engineer has been with bands such as The White Stripes, Arctic Monkeys, Mark Ronson, Keane, The Flaming Lips, The Last Shadow Puppets and Elliott Smith.

I have also been the recording engineer for a number of notable studio album recordings in the last few years. These include The White Stripes' "Get Behind Me Satan" (2005 Grammy Award winner) and "Broken Boy Soldiers" by The Raconteurs (nominated for two 2007 Grammy Awards), and most recently "The Sea" by Corinne Bailey-Rae, which was shortlisted for the 2010 Mercury Prize.

Live Sound

• Very experienced with FOH live concert mixing at all levels and in all regions of the world - from the largest outdoor festival headline bands (Glastonbury/Reading & Leeds, V Festival, T In The Park (UK)), Big Day Out (Aus/NZ), etc..), arena tours, sheds, theatres, clubs.. etc…
• Experience with mixing concerts involving large orchestras, strings, brass etc…
• Design, implementation, setup and equalisation of large scale sound systems including most high quality line array systems available including d&b J Series, L'Acoustics K1, VDOSC, Nexo Geo T, Meyer MILO and many others.
• Conversant with Smaart Live software, BSS SoundWeb, XTA AudioCore, Lake Contour and other software/hardware technologies for loudspeaker management, optimisation, equalisation and audio distribution.
• Familiar and experienced with most current digital consoles consoles including Digidesign D-Show, Digico, Midas Pro Series, Soundcraft Vi Series, Innovason, Yamaha PM1D & PM5D etc... and the best analogue consoles including the Midas XL4 and Heritage 3000.
• Specialist experience mixing sound for live TV broadcast environments.. Electric Proms with the BBC Concert Orchestra, Channel 4 Smash Hits Poll Winner's Party, BBC outside broadcasts /concerts etc...
• "Top Of The Pops" BBC Television Centre, London UK - Studio FOH Sound and Monitor Engineer 2004 - 2006
• FOH audio tech for large outdoor events such as T In The Park, Download Festival, Reading/Leeds Festivals, V Festival, Give It A Name, Arctic Monkeys at Lancashire County Cricket Club etc...
• Much experience experience mixing sound for large corporate events, with clients including: Jack Morton, George P Johnson, Best Buy, Intel, T Mobile, O2, Bjorn Borg, Etam, Burberry, Zumba etc...
• I have strong links with many Pro Audio vendors - from hire companies to audio equipment manufacturers.

Live Concert Recording & Mixing

• Have successfully made full studio quality 48+ track recordings of over 2000+ concerts
• Specialist knowledge and experience designing, implementing and operating mobile digital multi-track recording systems
• Mixed hundreds of recordings for download-able concerts, singles, live albums & dvds, live concert radio & television broadcasts and CD releases. I have much experience of doing these both backstage "on the road", and in the studio.
• Specialised knowledge of audio data management, duplication, backup and archival.
• Very experienced with iZ Technologies RADAR 24 and V, Digidesign/Avid Pro Tools HD & LE software and hardware (including integration of D-Show Live Consoles), Nuendo, Samplitude/Sequoia, Sound Forge, Waves Plug-ins and many other current audio hardware products & software on both mac and pc.

Studio Recording and Mixing

Very familiar with vintage analog recording techniques (especially involving magnetic tape), as well as most modern digital recording platforms including RADAR, Pro Tools HD, Logic Pro and many other computer-based DAW packages and audio production software.
